IATF 16949 Certified

R&M Metal Finishing | One of the first companies to become IATF 16949 accredited

R&M Metal Finishing Ltd is one of the first organisations in the UK to successfully make the transition from TS 16949:2009 to IATF 16949:2016 in conjunction with ISO 9001:2015.

IATF 16949:2016 was published by the IATF (International Automotive Task Force, Globally) and is set by a group of automotive manufacturers which aims at providing improved quality products to automotive customers worldwide.

R&M Metal Finishing

IATF 16949:2016 supersedes and replaces the current ISO/TS 16949:2009, defining the requirements of a quality management system for organisations that operate in the automotive industry. The new standard is shaped by tighter requirements and controls in all areas of the business with its ultimate aim to harmonise the different assessment and certification systems in the global automotive supply chain.

The certification is a significant reward for the collective team effort at R&M who worked tirelessly non-stop for a year, which required us to rewrite multiple aspects of the procedures and systems to ensure compliance to this international standard for the automotive industry creating a full and comprehensive quality management systems manual using risk management and a multi-disciplinary approach in all aspects of this standard.

Accreditations + Business Plan

The certificates have been provided to show our commitment to quality output from our wide range of coating processes, and that we have achieved accreditation in major industry sectors and general business practises.

This fantastic achievement means that we can guarantee our automotive customers the assurance their parts will be processed in accordance with this new standard leading to higher levels of customer satisfaction.

R&M’s quality team headed by our quality director offer years of experience and are continually monitoring and managing quality across all our operations to provide consistent performance and excellent product compliance.

As part of our Quality Procedures, along with daily on line Process Quality checks is the frequent monitoring of corrosion testing, thus supporting and validating our processes and controls. The standard we work to is ASTM B117, an internationally recognised standard test carried out to determine the corrosive effect using a water & salt mixture on samples of all our automotive products. It is carried out by spraying hot de-ionised water & salt solution in a closed humidifying chamber on samples which have been scored through the paint to the base material in a specific way in accordance with the above standard, this is an accelerated form of atmospheric corrosion testing and is specified in hours.

The conditions in the chamber are much harsher than conditions in the natural environment. The water & salt solution attacks the scored part of the samples to migrate under the paint in an attempt to lift the paint off the surface allowing us to evaluate the suitability, of primarily the pretreatment system used.

Different customers have different specific requirements in terms of salt spray hours and the amount of “flaking” allowed from the scored line, therefore we offer a number of treatment to meet the requirements cost effectively.
